The Callan App is only available to students at Callan Accredited Schools. The App lets you listen to the audio books and read the eBooks you have bought at your school. You can also easily practise your skills wherever you are with the 'Callan Student Practice Area': - record yourself in the 'Question and Answer' section - practise your writing in the 'Dictations' section - test yourself in. The Callan method has 12 levels, from “beginner” to “advanced”. In this table you will see what you will learn in each level of the method, as well as the comparison of each level with the levels of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

Learn Fast with Callan Method

The Callan method is a fast and fun way to learn English focusing on fluency, understanding and pronunciation.
You can learn to speak English in a quarter of the time. It's possible for a student to go from complete beginner to an advanced level in a year of studying, which is much faster than with other methods.

Everybody Speaks

The teacher asks questions designed to practice a particular piece of vocabulary or a grammatical concept, which the students answer with the teacher’s help. 70% of a Callan lesson is speaking (with a little reading and writing), so everybody gets lots of speaking practice.

Speed of Speaking

Callan teachers speak at a natural speed; the same speed that you might hear when you’re at work, out shopping, having a meal in a restaurant, a beer in a pub or watching a film. The speed of the Callan Method gives you no time to translate into your language, so it allows you to think and speak automatically in English, using correct English sentence construction.

General English

The Callan Method General English course consists of 12 levels (or “stages”), and caters for all learners, from total beginner to advanced. It is taught at Callan Accredited Schools and Online Partners, by Callan Registered Teachers and through Callan Online.

The Student’s Books are available in printed format or as eBooks with integrated audio. In addition to the books, you will have access to the online Callan Student Practice Area which has:

  • video dictations with auto-correction
  • a unique record-your-answer module
  • lots of interactive exercises to revise grammar and vocabulary

Exam success with Callan

The content of the Callan Method has been decided on with the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference) and popular international English language exams firmly in mind.

Grammar is taught throughout the Method. Rules are clearly explained and then immediately put into practice and constantly revised.

During Stage 5 or 6, most students will be ready to prepare for exams at B1 level, and in Stage 8 or 9 they will be at B2 level in terms of vocabulary, fluency and pronunciation, reading and listening comprehension, and usage of grammar. Different schools may then run short courses to equip students with the techniques needed for specific exams such as Cambridge Preliminary or First, IELTS, TOEIC or TOEFL.

Student workbooks are available to help students practise the grammar required at B1 and B2 levels.

By Stages 11 and 12 (the highest levels), the vast bulk of language being practised is appropriate for learners at level C1 of the CEFR.
